Horizontal bi-fold door adjustment

A question we were recently asked regarding bi-fold doors was…

“We had our kitchen fitted in December and on one of the bi-fold wall units, the door has slipped down. How do we tighten it?

Well, the horizontal bi-fold doors have a series of hinges that allow it to open upwards, so there could be a number of hinges that need a slight adjustment.

See the images below to see the hinges that we are talking about.

Rather than trying to explain how to adjust each hinge individually, the short video below will guide you through how to adjust the horizontal bi-fold doors. The bi-fold mechanism in our units is called blum Aventos.

We’ve fitted the horizontal bifold door, and can adjust the hinges as shown in the video. However, the door opens really violently! Snaps open and doesn’t glide like the ones in the showroom – we’ve adjusted the tension arm but it still lifts and opens with a jolt, what are we doing wrong?
