Tall Oven Housing Configurations

When deciding on which tall oven housing to choose from you need to think about exactly what you want to do with the rest of the unit. Are you going to have a single oven and a door at the bottom or a double oven with a few pull out drawers below or any one of the other options that we have available?

Oven housings

You have options

Some people like their oven to line up perfectly with the worktop but you only get this effect if you have just the 1 single oven in a tall unit or if you have a compact appliance and/or a warming drawer.

If you have a double oven then it will drop below the level of the worktop due to the sheer size of the oven and to make it accessible. The same as having a single oven with microwave housing.

Tall housing double ovens

  • The sections marked 283 are the sizes of the cupboard doors or drawers
  • The sections marked 490, 570 & 715 are standard cupboard doors
  • Oven housings are supplied with 139mm filler panels which will need to be cut down to suit onsite.

Horizontal lines

When designing a new kitchen, some people like the horizontal lines of pull out drawers to match any other pull out drawers in the kitchen run as shown below.

Horizontal lines

This is not a necessity but required by some customers. Here is an example of a kitchen where the horizontal lines of the pan drawer do not line up with those of the drawers on the oven housing but as you can see, the kitchen still looks great!

Pan drawer horizontal lines

So, before you start planning your kitchen, have a think about all of the above (doors or drawers & lines) and you’ll get the look and feel that you are looking for.

    Hi, I have purchased SOMHPD

    The aperture is 56cm wide

I cannot find a 56cm wide oven or microwave anywhere. Can you advise where I could purchase?

    Thanks

Hi, for this unit, you are looking for a single integrated oven around H59.5 x W59.4 x D54/55/56. The oven itself will fit in the aperture. The measurement you see of 59.5cm x 59.5cm is the outer measurement that fits flush to the front of the unit (the front of the oven is the size that you see). Remember, our tall units are 56cm deep with a 42mm service void for cables etc.

Do you have any real life photos of the SOWD1MPDI – Single Oven-Warming Drawer And Microwave Housing – 1 Pan Drawer? We are getting it in Helmsley but I’d like to see one with real appliances in if possible. Thanks!

Hi Alex, the information is on the website under the description section, this shows the heights as 880mm (oven) and 450mm (microwave). The internal width will be 564mm and the depth is 560mm.

Hi Charlotte, in this unit you have a H880mm x W564mm aperture for the double oven and H290mm x W564mm for the warming drawer, it also comes with a H115mm filler to cover any gaps if needed.

    Hi
I am looking at either a helmsley or Linwood style
I want to have two full ovens in a tall housing?
When we visited the showroom the advisor gave us the code but I can not seem to find it.
Can you confirm the product code in both ranges?
    Thanks

      For the Helmsley range, this isn’t a unit which is supplied in this range, However we can supply this as the following;

DOMHPD-1 would need to be used for x2 single ovens in a 1970 high unit (355mm drawers top and bottom and a 135mm filler – The unit would need to be requested to be supplied dry assembled so the shelves can be adjusted to create the x2 apertures for the ovens.

DOMHPDT-1 Would need to be used for x2 single ovens in a 2150 high unit (513 top door 355mm bottom drawer and a 135mm filler – Again, The unit would need to be requested to be supplied dry assembled so the shelves can be adjusted to create the x2 apertures for the ovens.

You can contact the sales team on 01977 608 418 for more information on this.

    Domhpd

    Ideally would have double oven
Plus microwave in one stack. However I am not very tall. Does this work, how high is the microwave (is it the microwave that goes on top?) any other solutions to arrange the appliances low enough? Thanks.

The alternative is to put the microwave in a top cupboard, but I suspect that won’t be any lower?

    October 22, 2021 at 9:29 am
    • DIY Kitchens says:

Hi, the microwave goes at the top in this unit as there is no way to adjust its positioning, due to the oven below it. You could use a mid-height unit and place the microwave in there (examples here) or it can go inside an open base unit, as shown in this article.

Is there any way to install a large 29cm warming drawer beneath a single oven in a 2120mm unit? Ie. use up one of the pan drawer spaces to install the warming drawer?

    • Diy Kitchens says:

Hi, they won’t unfortunately. As the aperture is bigger, the doors would have to be made smaller, to accommodate for the extra appliance. If you need anymore help with this then our sales team will be able to assist on 01977 608 418 (M-F, 9am – 5pm).

I would like 2 full size single ovens side by side in 2120 tall units. I would like one of the units to have a warming drawer as well. Will the single ovens still line up with each other in this arrangement?

    February 13, 2021 at 4:49 pm
    • DIY Kitchens says:

Hi, we would recommend using a double oven housing, such as a DOH or DOHPD, to house both the single oven and the 290mm warming drawer, so that they line up.

Hi, we have a very compact kitchen to build and want to combine a low level fridge with an oven above in a tall unit, do you have a unit to accommodate?

    May 13, 2020 at 10:02 pm
    • Diy Kitchens says:

Hi Mark, i’m afraid we don’t have such a unit. The heat from the oven would cause the fridge to work twice as hard, to keep cool.

    hi,

can i put my over unit next to my fridge.. for safety/heat ?

    January 29, 2020 at 10:03 am
    • Diy Kitchens says:

Hi Louise, we do not recommend putting an oven next to a fridge. The oven heats the fridge up and makes it work a lot harder, consuming more energy and shortening the life of the fridge.

    • Caroline Malkin says:

I have my tall oven unit next to my tall intregrated fridge freezer unit and it is fine, I had bought a new oven only a short time before deciding to replace the kitchen so I was able to see how hot the cabinets got, we pulled out all the cabinets either side of the oven housing and switched on the oven as high as it would go, I think it was around 260, and run it for 30mins, the sides of the cabinet was still cool to touch, it made no difference, what I would say though is dont open the oven door at the same time you have the fridge door open other than that I don’t have any problems with it.

  • Joanne says:

    Hi
I’ve purchased oven unit SOH the filler panel is bigger than the gap that is left between the oven and the aperture and the finish when cut to size doesn’t look great. Is the only solution to cut the panel do you do ones to fit as surely most single ovens are the same size. This article suggests that we could but a different door for the top cupboard but then you lose some of the cupboard. Any advice

    Thanks

    • Diy Kitchens says:

Hi Joanne, we have units in many different sizes/configurations and most require a filler panel above to cover any gaps. This needs to be cut down onsite with the correct chop saw for a smooth cut. Its not possible to change the door I’m afraid as the 490mm tall door is the only one that will fit this unit, so the door profile lines up with any adjacent units.

But it didn’t come with a 490mm tall door the unit came with a 715mm door and a 570mm door so could I change the 570mm door to a 490mm door and get a better fit?

Hi, you have this unit SOHT2 – 2150MM X 600MM – BUILT-IN 2X SINGLE OVEN HOUSING – 1 PAN DRAWER. Can the pan drawer be removed and a plate warmer put in instead?

    March 13, 2019 at 11:26 am
    • Diy Kitchens says:

Hi Paula, our factory would not be able to make this amendment, so it is something you would need to have your kitchen fitter do on site. You may also want to have the unit dry assembled to make it easier to adapt. It is also worth noting that the bottom drawer is 283mm high, whilst the largest warming drawer is 240mm high, so you might need a filler panel too to cover any remaining gap.

Hi I’m looking to have two tall units for my ovens. In order to get them looking correct is it possible to have 1 of the tall units housing a double oven and warming draw with the 2nd cabinet housing a single standard sized oven and a separate microwave?

    Hi
I have 2 tall units 2300 (single oven+ microwave), one with an Oven and Microwave and the other with a single oven, what can I use to fill the gap above the oven so that the appliances are aligned.
There is no extra appliance that I want to specifically purchase. I don’t mind a warming drawer but that wont fill the space.
You don’t appear to have a door that will fit to make the space useable. and I don’t want it left open as a shelf.
I’m purchasing Luca Dove Grey. Any ideas, help greatly appreciated
    Thank you

    • Diy Kitchens says:

Hi, the only way to do this would be to purchase the single oven and microwave housing and ask for this to be made bespoke with 2 x 283 pan drawers and a 895 top door and a 115 filler to be cut down on site.

This will incur a cost of £100.00 as this is a bespoke unit and would need to go through the specials line. The 2 x ovens will start at the same height then.

    By Brian,
I’m using a SOMHPD tall housing for a oven and microwave . can the oven sit straight on top of the shelf or does there have to be a gap below it. For heat to escape.

    September 26, 2017 at 9:16 am
    • Diy Kitchens says:

Hi, the oven would sit on the bottom shelf and then the microwave would sit above on the second shelf, they do not need any additional spacing for heat to escape etc.

Hi i am finishing the kitchen design and want the 2x pan draws on the tall double oven unit and tall microwave unit to line up with the base unit pan draws, will we require the 2+1 draws as we were originally thinking of the 2 + internal draw option.

    • Diy Kitchens says:

Hi, the bottom drawer on a housing with double oven and microwave is 283mm high. there is only one drawer and it will match the bottom drawer of the 2+1 drawer unit. for safety reasons the double oven and microwave should not be raised higher than the original unit dimensions.

Hello, the SOHT2 doesn’t appear to be available in Helmsley bespoke or Ayton bespoke – the two kitchen styles I’m interested in. Is this correct? Can either of these kitchens have a 2x stacked single ovens tall unit created as a custom job?

    • Diy Kitchens says:

Hi, it is possible but you would need to remove the shelf and fit it higher and place the filler below the shelf. An easier option would be to order an appliance shelf from us and fit this higher than the original shelf to lift the oven and place the filler in between the two shelves.

Is there any technical diagrams of these units that I can use to know what dimensions the appliances need to be?

Hi, on your virtual showroom tour you have the Cento & Livorna kitchen on the upper floor. It shows a single oven in a tall unit (2120mm), with a door above it and a door below it. No filler is used above the oven, which I like.

On your website however, the only tall unit that I can find that will house a single oven has to have a filler above it. Why is this? Is there something that I can do like order a bigger door for the cupboard above?

      Hi,

The made to measure doors are now discontinued. We now supply standard doors with a filler to accommodate all sizes of appliances. It also takes the door away from the heat source of the oven and prevents heat damage.
