The fridge with a gun turret

FridgeIn 1927 General Electric started to distribute the household fridge. The only down site to this fridge was that it looked like it had a gun turret on it from a warship! This was in fact the refrigeration unit that was used to keep the food chilled.

Any Doctor Who fans out there may liken the fridge with a gun turret to that of a Darlek, the resemblance is striking but dare go for a midnight snack and you may well get exterminated!

These early fridges also used some pretty harmful gases & acids which would seriously harm you if they leaked. I’m not quite sure how these fridges were disposed off back then but there must be a toxic fridge scrapyard somewhere in the UK!

If you go out for a walk in the countryside at any point soon, don’t forget to take your metal detector with you and see what you can find. If enough people do this then a bit like Geocaching, you can set your own website up and exposure the fridge graveyards:-)
