Do I need a housing unit for a double oven?

Double ovenGood question. Double ovens do need a housing to hold them but the housing comes in the form of tall units as these are required for these types of ovens. You do have a choice of the type of tall unit you choose though. Some units come with hinged doors above and below the ovens, others come with draws that pop out, ideal for pots and pans that need to be stored out of site to make the kitchen look less cluttered.

You can see a selection of double oven kitchen units here.

Single oven side by sideIf you want two ovens but would prefer to have them side by side then this is possible too! You would need to get 2 medium/tall sized units like the ones found here, and shown on the left. This is a great alternative and is ideal if you have back problems or just want easier access to your ovens.

Reading the installation instructions for the oven we’re planning on getting and it has a note for mounting in built in cabinet of “If installing the oven in a built-in cabinet, the cabinet must have its plastic surfaces and adhesive parts resistant up to 90 °C.”

Are your oven cabinets resistant for up to 90 °C?

    Hi
I’ve bought a Zannisi cooker hood and a 900mm wide top box bridging unit to fit it into. Having done that I can’t figure out how to fit the pelmet as there is only a thin strip left on the front edge.
The cooker hood is hard up to the back panel
My last kitchen from a competitor! Has a similar set up yet the pelmet fitted nicely up to the cooker hood.
The pelmet is too wide on this kitchen (Clayton)
    Any suggestions?

Hi, it is really hard to visualise the issue you are having. The best thing to do would be to contact the sales team on 01977 608 418 to see if they can offer any advice.

If you install an Oven in a tall housing do the cupboards at the top get excessively hot?

Bit of a basic question but it’s keeping me awake at night!

    Cheers

Hi, you may feel a little warmth in the cupboards directly above the oven but nothing to be worried about. Modern integrated ovens are pretty well made and the worst blast of heat you get is when you open the oven door. Always remember to wait 3 seconds after opening the oven door before you take food out. This will stop the wall of heat rising from the oven hitting you face on:-)

Looking at Stoves’ installation instructions, it appears it should be possible to accomodate a built under 700mm double oven either by removing the bottom shelves from the basic unit (which would give better spacing) or just affixing directly to adjacent unit sides. (link: http://www.stoves.co.uk/media/549798/SEB600FPS_SEB700FPS_SEB900FPS-2-.pdf … page 38 on)
Is this a bad idea ? (Mindful of the Flanders and Swan song, I don’t like high level grills)

      Hi,

You could install your oven in a base unit and adapt it to suit but the diagram that you see on page 40, where you attach the oven to 2 runners attached to the outside of the 2 units, would be the cheapest way of doing this. As long as the runners are strong and fixed on properly, it should be safe with no danger of the oven falling down.

    Hi Paul,

A vertical double oven unit would not fit under a counter and would stand mid height at around 1250mm. See below.

    https://www.diy-kitchens.com/kitchen-units/base/1250mm-high/appliance-housing-units/600mm-mid-height-unit-for-double-oven-with-pan-drawers/wp16007/#.UfZTnY21F8E

If you wanted 2 ovens side by side then you would need to buy 2 units like the one shown below.

    https://www.diy-kitchens.com/kitchen-units/base/appliance-housing/built-under-oven-housing/wp8527/#.UfZT8Y21F8E

    I hope that helps
