What are the specifications of your kitchen unit carcasses?

DIY Kitchens CarcaseOur carcasses are supplied fully rigid, built up and are manufactured using glue and dowel construction techniques, the same way as those employed by the leading kitchen manufacturers in Europe.  The doors and drawer fronts are professionally mounted to the carcasses as well.

The carcasses are manufactured using Egger 18mm high density melamine faced chipboard with 8mm melamine faced chipboard backs to both wall and base units. All of the carcase front edges are lipped with a durable 2mm PVC edging material to match the various carcase colours selected. All other exposed edges are lipped with 0.4 edging tape.

It is not possible to order just carcasses without doors, as the doors are attached to the units in the manufacturing process (unless you order an open unit).

Other carcase information

  • Base units are drilled to provide 3 adjustable shelf positions.
  • Three-way adjustable concealed hanging brackets are fitted to the wall units. Each pair of brackets can carry up to 70 kilograms and conforms to DIN68840. Wall plates are supplied as standard.
  • All wall units are drilled to provide adjustable shelf positioning. 570 high units have one shelf, 720 and 900 high units have 2, cover caps in white, beige or brown are supplied for the unused drillings.
  • Wall units are 300mm deep excluding the door.
  • We can offer flexibility to the carcase specifications – units can be increased and reduced in depth. (limits apply) This can be requested when ordering the units online.
  • Where units are shown with drawer and pan drawer boxes they are supplied fitted in to the units. These are full extension Hettich.
  • Innotech double skinned metal drawers, pan drawers have a gallery rail supplied to increase the height of the drawer.
  • We use the BLUM TANDEMBOX full extension drawer system as standard. Powder coated steel, 470mm sides (485mm installation depth), aluminium back panel and a 15mm MFC base.

kitchen unit legsUnit legs

Each unit is supplied with adjustable 150mm FENNEL MULTISTAR legs as standard with 100mm legs available as an option. Both of the leg options have a minus adjustment of 10mm and a plus adjustment of 20mm.

The legs fold into the foot for transport as can be seen in the following illustration. Each unit is supplied with 2 adjustable plinth clips clipped on to the front 2 legs. The plinth clips fit over the top of the plinth and have a lip that fits over the top of the plinth. With every order 6 self-adhesive clips are sent out for the plinth returns.

Unit hinges

kitchen-unit-hingesEach unit is supplied with the appropriate hinge manufactured by Blum to suit the application that the unit is designed for. Standard hinges are 110 degree opening, all steel, 3 way adjustable hinges with an inline clip system base-plate. Is it possible to get wall cabinets 330mm deep (including the integrated microwave wall cabinet)?

    • DIY Kitchens says:

Hi, all wall units are 300mm deep. But, there are doors that stick out around 18-20mm on most kitchen styles, so you can get an integrated microwave with a depth of 320mm, which would fit flush with any doors above and to the side of the microwave.

Hi, I cannot find a tall unit like SOMHPDT with the top door opening to one side rather than towards the ceiling; the ceiling height is a bit tight so I’m afraid the door will hit it, plus it’s far too high for me to be able to close it. Would it be possible to supply the door undrilled so that I can fit hinges myself? In that case, could you supply a pair of regular hinges instead of the current mechanism?
I would also like to know the interior height of the drawers of these units P2D1-6 and P2D0-10 (3 different drawer heights)

      P2D1-6
      Top drawer 67mm
      Pan drawers 190mm

      P2D0-10
Height to top of Drawer box is 190mm

Is it possible to order some units without legs as I already have a solid 150mm plinth in place. If not how much clearance is their back and front from the edge of the cabinets to the leg holders

    July 17, 2021 at 9:00 am
    • DIY Kitchens says:

Hi, I’m afraid the bosses for the legs are attached to the cabinet as standard. You can get your kitchen fitter to use a small saw blade, to cut of the dowels if required.

How do I adjust the soft close on a base unit, I have a door that is banging shut

    January 22, 2021 at 3:35 pm
    • Diy Kitchens says:

Hi, line up the soft close attachment so that the grey bit that retracts is facing you, position the soft close bit so that the small clips on it, fit into the hole in the hinge. Then, using your thumbs, push a little on the front with one thumb then push down hard with the other thumb at the back. That should do the trick! If there is no spring to the grey section at the end, then you may have a faulty soft close clip that will need replacing.

  • Nigel Ross-Smith says:

    Hello,

Want to run 22mm water pipes behind the base units (easier than digging up old pipes under the floor). Can you tell what are the dimensions behind the rear legs assuming that carcass is hard against the wall?

    February 21, 2019 at 10:08 am
    • Diy Kitchens says:

Hi Nigel, the service void to the back of our base units is 42mm. The legs are fitted 115mm in from the back of the unit (to the centre of the leg) and 90mm in from the back of the unit (to the front of the leg).

Do the back panels on the sink units come fixed ? do they come apart to aid around pipework and water meters ect?

    November 8, 2017 at 11:49 pm
    • Diy Kitchens says:

Hi, sink units come with 3/4 high back panels, so there is a small open gap in the back but the back panels are fixed. However, the back panel is 8mm thick, so it’s easily cut into shape if required.

  • Wendy B says:

There is no 600mm pull-out waste bin unit specified for the Harewood in-frame kitchen. Is there a unit I can use with waste bins 580-GY? I would really like to use a drawerline base unit – would the bin unit fit inside BD6IHWMU with the cupboard door removed and attached to the pull out bin or would the door frame prevent the bin mechanism from working? Alternatively, could I use the pull out bin base unit BDB6-2X30GFH with the Harewood in-frame effect appliance door kit IHWMUIADD6 with the drawer part fitted to the drawer and the door part fitted to the bin?

Also, can you tell me the difference between the tandem larder units TPO6IHWMU and TPO6UIHWMU please?

    April 25, 2016 at 8:51 am
    • Diy Kitchens says:

You would need to order the BD6IHWMU and make a note for it to be supplied with combination door and then order the 551-GY bin separately, these would be the components needed. The unit would only be drawerline, so it would not have a working drawer as this isn’t possible with the in-frame ranges.

The difference between the two larders is the first one has a small door at the top and second one has a small door at the bottom.

Slightly odd question but which of your kitchen designs have cabinets and doors that close themselves rather than having to physically shut them all the way?

They all do. Just choose soft close when ordering the doors and units. (There is a tick box on each page to add the soft close hinges)
