Do I need a unit for a warming drawer?

Warming drawer

If you are looking at installing a warming drawer into your new kitchen, to allow you to keep food warm until needed, then some of our tall appliance housings come with the space already, for you to fit one into.

Warming drawer sizes

Before thinking about the unit needed for the warming drawer, you first need to decide on which one you are going to buy.

This is because they come in 2 different sizes:

Which oven fits with a warming drawer?

Now that you have thought about sizes, you can now think about which oven you are going to have in the unit, as this will help you narrow down which housing to go for.

The choices are:

Which tall appliance housing do I need?

Now that you have thought about warming drawer & oven sizes, you can now think about which unit is needed for your appliance configuration. Some examples of the units that we supply are below with scenarios.

The units below are our standard 1970mm high units (2120mm with legs).

Scenario #1 – Single oven with 140mm high warming drawer

The unit (SOH14WDP2) allows for a single oven 595mm high, as well as a 140mm warming drawer. Here is a breakdown of the measurements.

1970mm high tall unit:

This leaves around a 75mm gap that can be filled by using the supplied 115mm drawer front, which is cut down and used as a filler. If you wanted this unit without pan drawers then the product code to search for on our website is (SOH14WD)

Please note: We do not have a unit that can accommodate a 290mm high warming drawer and a single oven but you could fit this into a double oven housing unit (DOH), if required.

Scenario #2 – Double oven with 140mm high warming drawer

The unit (DOH14WD) allows for a double oven 880mm high, as well as a 140mm high warming drawer. Here is a breakdown of the measurements.

1970mm high tall unit:

This leaves around a 97mm gap that can be filled by using the supplied 115mm drawer front, which is cut down and used as a filler.

If you wanted this unit with pan drawers then the product code to search for on our website is (DOH14WDP2)

Scenario #3 – Double oven with 290mm high warming drawer

The unit (DOH29WDP1) allows for a double oven 880mm high, as well as a 290mm high warming drawer. Here is a breakdown of the measurements.

1970mm high tall unit:

This leaves around a 67mm gap that can be filled by using the supplied 115mm drawer front, which is cut down and used as a filler.

Please note that double ovens usually range in height from 880mm up to around 890mm. This is fine and the oven will fit into the appliance housing. The only thing you need to do is cut a smaller filler to cover the smaller gap.

If you see a double oven around 715mm high then this is an oven that goes under your worktop, not in a tall appliance housing!

Scenario #4 – Compact oven with 140mm high warming drawer

The unit (SOH) allows for a 1 single oven 595mm high, or a compact oven 455mm high as well as a 140mm high warming drawer. Here is a breakdown of the measurements.

1970mm high tall unit:

This leaves around a 90mm gap that can be filled by using the supplied 115mm drawer front, which is cut down and used as a filler.

Does the oven sit on the warming drawer?

Yes. Most warming drawers are purpose built to be stacked with joining strips added, so the appliances are seamlessly positioned above them. Some warming drawers though, do require an additional appliance shelf, to support the weight of the appliance above it.

Always refer to the manufacturer’s documentation for the appliance, as an appliance shelf may be required, which can be ordered from ourselves.
