Corner base unit and wall unit door alignment

Wall Unit Alignment

A commonly asked question by customers when designing their new kitchen is how to get the doors of the corner base unit to align with the doors on the wall units directly above it.

Now this is one answer that is not easy to verbalise so hopefully the diagram below with help you to visualise the answer.

This example is based on a 1000mm corner base unit being used.

Some important points to remember here are:

(1) The corner base unit service void needs to be 130mm wide. Most people forget the space that is needed for the corner post. (indicated by the arrow on the diagram above). The corner post width would be around 5-7cms wide, giving enough space for doors to open and handles not to bash on other doors. The corner post is a variant in your kitchen design and will be aligned to fit with the space that is left.

(2) Two wall units are needed above the 1000mm corner base unit. A 500mm wide unit and a 600mm wide unit.

(3) The space left to fill between the last wall unit and wall will be 30mm. This would need to be filled with some filler material. This could be door or carcase material but ultimately this depends on the door style that you choose.

As you can see from the diagram above, the blue line shows you the vertical alignment of the doors and how it all fits together.

In summary, the total amount of space required is 1130mm for the example above (1000mm corner base / 100mm service void / 30mm corner post space)
