Touch-up paint is available for all the kitchens that we sell. Here’s some information on how to get yours.

Matt painted kitchens

When you order a matt painted kitchen from us, you are supplied with a free pot of touch-up paint inside the fittings box, in case you need to cover up any accidents, once your kitchen has been fitted.

The pot of touch-up paint is supplied with a clear liquid, this is called a catalyst (hardener) and makes the paint tougher and more durable. The touch-up paint can be applied with a small brush.

The touch-up paint and catalyst should be mixed together, 4 parts paint to 1 part catalyst ratio. It should be mixed thoroughly and applied with a fine brush.

The paint takes about 60 minutes to dry.

Matt Touch Up Paint

Should you require anymore touch-up paint then this can be ordered through our sales team and it is £5 per pot (comes with the catalyst too).

How to mix the touch-up paint

This video will show you how to prepare and use the touch-up paint.

Gloss painted kitchens

Gloss painted kitchens are not supplied with any touch up paint, as we don’t paint the gloss finish. Should you need any touch up paint then this can be obtained in the form of a touch-up pen that we can obtain for you, but this is chargeable at £10 per colour pen and can be ordered through our sales team.

Hi, I have shortened a tall standing unit and trimmed 2 doors (Luca white gloss) to fit. What paint should I use to paint the trimmed edges. Can I go to any painter? Have you got any recommendation for my issue to blend the edge with the rest of the doors?

Hi Johann, as this is a gloss kitchen, we don’t supply pots of touch up paint but we can supply a touch up pen, These are £11 +vat. Please contact our sales team directly on 01977 608 418, so that they can create you a shopping basket for the touch up pen. As this is a gloss kitchen, the only option really is to use the touch up pen.

Hi – I’ve just read the information on touch up paint and in the notes above it says to use a ratio of 4:1 whereas in the video it says 2:1 – which is correct?

    • DIY Kitchens says:

Hi Andy, we have recently change this to a ratio of 4:1. The video will get updated.

Hi I have one of your kitchens which was fitted about 18 months ago, it’s not one of the painted ones, however it seems to scratch and chip easily, is this normal? Can the touch up paint be used? It’s the Luca carbon kitchen.

    • DIY Kitchens says:

Hi Naomi, the kitchens don’t usually chip easily unless the door has been collided with, with some force. Touch up paint can be used but the paint does not have a long shelf life, so the touch up paint you have may longer be usable. If you contact our aftersales team on 01977 608 418 then they will be able to get some more sent out.

Hi — it seems everyone wants the same information here. What words would I use when visiting the local paint company to buy a paint finish that as closely as possible matches your Luca painted kitchens (for skirting boards etc)? Eg: matt? Satin? Kitchen unit paint? Solvent based? Water based? Lacquer? Thank you!

    • DIY Kitchens says:

Hi Kim, you need to ask for 20% sheen, which is commonly referred to as egg shell but 20% is the important bit. Our colour tolerance is 0.25 delta-e. We recommend a tester pot first and apply to a small piece as the application can make a difference to the colour.

From reading previous posts, I can see you have sold extra paint for skirting boards in the past. Why do you not sell it any more? What brand of paint and finish is used on the helmsley

Hi Faye, we are unable to send it out due to health and safety for transporting paint. Customers can order it though, if they collect it from us. The paint we use is from Renner. You can get the paint colour matched at a local paint mixing shop, to use for painting skirting.

How much surface area does a pot of touch up paint cover approximatelt? We want to use a different cornice and I don’t know how much extra to order

    September 17, 2023 at 12:33 pm
    • DIY Kitchens says:

Hi Sophie, the pot is only 1.5 inches square and is purely for touching up very small marks. The coverage might cover the area of a piece of A6 paper.

Is it possible to paint an existing painted kitchen as I’ve moved into a house with a diy kitchen which has 3 tones and I would like to paint graphite over the grey.

    April 10, 2023 at 12:12 pm
    • DIY Kitchens says:

Hi Juliana, this will depend on the door range. If the door is MDF smooth painted and not foil wrapped it should be fine. If it’s a solid wood door then you can still do this but you may loose the wood grain when sanding down.

Hi, Can you advise what type of diluting medium is used in your touch up paint? Is it a spirit based solvent or water soluble?

    March 20, 2023 at 5:06 pm
    • DIY Kitchens says:

Hi Simon, the catalyst we use is solvent based.

We ordered 3 extra pots of paint and tried to use today. Bespoke Color. The hardener for all 3 is solid. What can I use as an alternative?

We never received any Matt Luca carbon touch up paint with our order.

Hi there, why does it cost £30 delivery for a couple of small pots of touch up paint? This seems to be very excessive, nearly £50 in total.

Hi we have ordered additional paint to paint our own skirting we’ve used instead of plinths, do we put a wood primer undercoat on the wood before applying your paint and catalyst hardener? Thanks

    December 8, 2021 at 1:07 pm
    • DIY Kitchens says:

Hi, the skirting boards would need priming, so that the top coat of paint apples properly. We use a PU primer on our painted items. If you need anymore advice on this then our sales team will be able to help on 01977 608 418.
