When designing your new kitchen, one thing to remember is that not all kitchen units need to have doors on them.

We stock a wide range of open kitchen units that can be used to display items like plants, crockery, ornaments, books and even pictures or you can buy open kitchen units that can be adapted to create plate racks or even bottle racks to store all those celebratory bottles of wine in, that will be needed to welcome in the new kitchen:-)

Open kitchen units are incredibly versatile. They can add a touch of class to your kitchen and can even be used when you have a small space left to fill, in a kitchen run. And, there are open kitchen units available in both wall and base unit varieties.

Hi. What are the dimensions of the quadrant please? I have the overall dimensions (560×300) but am I right in thinking the cut-out corner is 100mm by 100mm, and so the depth is 560 on one side and 460 on the other?

The reason I ask is I want to use it midway in a run of units, and the wall is not true, but has a step in it (room was originally two rooms that have been knocked through)

Also can the quadrant be cut back further (say 150;x 150).

    Thanks
    Jay

Hi, the size of the end quadrant is 720mm high x 300mm wide x 560mm deep. This is the only size that it is available in i’m afraid. If you have any other questions then our sales team will be able to help on 01977 608 418.

Thank you for your last reply, that is a great help. For the 300mm and 400mm wide open wall units, they are only available as 575mm high, is it possible for you to make them available in 720mm (MOW) and 900mm (TOW) versions, the same as the wider units? That would save having to order a complete wall unit and throw the door away each time and eliminate unnecessary holes in the sides. Thank you.

Are the visible front edges of the open cabinets finished with the same 2mm ABS edging as the other cabinets are? The 100mm open base unit mentions 0.8mm PVC, just need clarification please. Can I order extra cabinet material edged with the 2mm ABS? Thanks.

    • DIY Kitchens says:

Hi, all of the carcase front edges are lipped with a durable 2mm PVC edging material to match the various carcase colour selected. All other exposed edges are lipped with 0.4 edging tape. You can order extra edging tape which is our carcase material & colours, this can be found here. Here is specification guide of our units as well.

    Hi,
Do you have any tall (1970mm) open units that are 300mm wide?
I’m planning a bank of tall units along one wall and I want to have shelving as a divider between them, but the only tall open unit I can find is the wine rack and that’s not suitable as it has a central divide.
Can you instead supply a 300mm larder unit without the door?
If not, would another option be to just buy additional 300mm shelves? If I do this would I need to place end panels on the tall units or would it be OK without?

  • Steven says:

I’m looking for a 900mm high 600mm x 600mm corner wall unit to go with a Bespoke Painted Norton kitchen. There is no corner door solution in that style so another option would be to have an open corner unit. However the open corner wall unit is only 720mm high (MOCW) and there doesn’t seem to be a TOCW. Would a regular corner wall unit be a suitable replacement e.g. TCW-1 or is there a difference?

Also is any part of the open wall unit painted with the door colour or is it standard carcass material?

    Hi,
One of your customer kitchens (Kathryn & Simon from South Devon – Linwood Mussel) had full height wine racks either side of a tall unit but they had doors on the bottom half of each. Please could you tell me how this was achieved? We have 2 dogs and don’t want any open low units to catch floof!

    • Diy Kitchens says:

Hi Charlie, the units you see in the customer’s house do not exist like they are shown. The customer ordered the following items.

      2 x tall wine racks (TWR15 – 1970mm high)
      2 x 150mm wide base units (FD15)

The only way to do what the customer has done is cut down the wine rack and place it on top of the 2 150mm wide base units.

Would it not be possible to fit a 150mm door onto the bottom of a 1970mm high wine rack then and just purchase the ‘Linwood Alabaster – Door – 715X147mm’ to attach ourselves?

        Thanks

      • Diy Kitchens says:

Hi Charlie, we can supply you with a 715×147 door & the hinges which you would need to do this. You will then need to drill the wine rack carcase on site and fit the door on site as this isn’t something we make as a standard unit. Please note the space inside the unit is 114mm wide (minus the 2 sides 18mm each). This is a very tight area to get any form of drill or screwdriver in from the inside.

  • Jo Sheppard says:

    Hi,
Are the shelfs on the wall mounted 150mm wine racks removeable? I’m looking to achieve something similar to a picture above, second from the bottom, where they have created some kind of book/letter storage, with just one shelf in the middle. I can’t seem to find it on the website so wondered if I could just take some shelves out of the wine rack?
    Thanks, Jo

    • Diy Kitchens says:

Hi Jo, we can supply the unit dry assembled so you can move the shelves as you wish. However, looking at the photo you mentioned, it looks like you may be better ordering a 150mm open wall unit here (without a door)

  • Megan says:

Hi I’d like to buy an open 300 wide base unit in Norton light grey, but there only seems to be an option with a drawer as well, instead of just a shelf – the narrowest without a drawer seems to be 400. Is it possible to order a 300 wide one?

Hi Megan, yes we are able to supply you with an open base unit at 300mm wide. Please send over a new support ticket below, along with your shopping cart ID and we can add this in your cart for you. https://www.diy-kitchens.com/support/new-ticket.asp

How much weight can the 300mm open corner wall unit hold? I would like to put cook books on here with a book end but was not sure it would carry the weight given the shelves are not supported on all three sides, just two.

    • Diy Kitchens says:

Hi, as long as the unit is attached to the other units/wall securely then it will take the books quite easily.

HI, we are considering buying an open wall unit to provide shelves between two glazed cupboards. We want this to be in Alabaster, like our Linwood doors. All our other carcasses are in Lancaster Oak. Would an alabaster cupboard have wood grain effect, to match the doors?

  • Claire says:

I’m currently planning a row of 2150 mm tall units and will have a gap of 150 mm at the end which I would like to fill with a full height open wine rack. Can wine racks be supplied to a height of 2150 mm to match the tall units?
Also, how deep are the wine racks?

    September 22, 2017 at 3:02 pm
    • DIY Kitchens says:

Hi Claire, thanks for your question.

Yes, we do supply tall wine racks at 2150mm high, to match our wall units.

These wine racks are 560mm deep, which also matches our tall units.

      I hope this helps.

Hi, you don’t seem to sell any units with plate racks in them. Is it possible to have one made or do you sell the bits for a kitchen fitter to make one?

    July 10, 2015 at 9:34 am
    • Diy Kitchens says:

In most ranges you can purchase an open unit and a plate rack separately, depending on the door style. Some ranges do have plate rack units such as the Harewood in-frame range.

For example in Linwood you could order – MOW6, a 600 open wall unit and ILWOPR12, a 1200 plate rack.
